Lap-A-Thon

Today we did an one hour Lap-A-Thon. Ruri got sick Saturday so I had to skate for both of us. I was skating the normal track (100 meter lap), and skated 239 laps in one hour. We had a maximum lap count of 250 so I am pretty happy about the time. This translates into 15 sec lap. For a road Marathon (straight way rather than nearly 1000 turns:-) the record skated by Chad Hedrick in Northshore is 1 hour, which translate into 8.55 second lap. I wonder if they can skate 8.55 laps for the whole Marathon distance. This means that skating straight way is easier than skating 100-meter laps. Hopefully, I can skate the upcoming San Francisco marathon in under 2 hrs.

11'7 lap

Today, Ruri clocked her first under 12 second lap, and it was a good 11'7. Not bad at all. Coach has told me that she has graduated from her first pair of skates (Powerslides R2) and 84mm wheels. I'd better start looking for a new pair for her. Her friend did a few 11'7 last week, but did a 11'4 today with a new pair of boots and 90mm wheels. She has been skating on exactly the same setup as Ruri, so most likely a new pair of boot will shave a few fractions of seconds off her lap time. Time to start researching.

This weekend it will be team Lap-a-thon. Ruri has made a some craft keychain for people who would contribute, mostly her playdate's parents, and some of my collegues. Her package include the letter, a photo of her skating, and potential key chain. We'll see how she does. The money she raised can be used to buy her the new boots.

Meeting #3

Ruri went to the standard race at Merced last weekend. Unlike the previous one, this has a 7 lap long race followed by a 3 lap short race. Ruri did very well, beat out both challeng-uppers and took the deserved second place in both races. In the last meet, her good friend (who is the challeng-upper) actually beat Ruri although it didn't affect Ruri's placement.

I also find a website that host the race photos of the South West Pacific Region meets. I managed to find a good one with Ruri leading the pack. Next meet San Bernadino, 3/10-11.
