Ruri's Merit Scholar Recital

This year's recital is a mix of Classical, Blues and Chinese. The accompanist did a wonderful job, and so did Ruri, after only one 20 minute session playing with him. The Chinese (Chop Suey) piece was very difficult to get right as it sound more like a modern piece/improvisation, but it clicked. Enjoy.

GF Handel: Sonata in G minor (Larghetto and Presto, 1st and 4th)

Chop Suey: Alan Bullard (This piece should be called Ramen, as it's more of a Japanese sound than Chinese sound:-)

BBQ Blues: Alan Bullard

Carpentry work for the new year

I made this Loftbed over the new year holiday. It was kind of challenging since I don't have a press drill so it was difficult to line up the holes very accurately, but I think I did a pretty good job mostly using hand tools (I prefer the Japanese saw even for cross cuts). For the grove needed for supporting the bed board, I had to use table saw though. Now Takeru also want it, and he is designing it (deciding what color for each piece, and maybe some accessories that can be attached to the basic frame. Hopefully the second round will be easier.

Check it out.

We are on a roll!

The weather was almost like spring last week and we took the opportunity to go for a skate/cycling roll. Takeru was fast and furious as usual on his sister's racing bicycle, and his soccer pal gave him a good chase. We should do this more often as the weather gets better...

We are on TV!

Where, not exactly:-) The local NBC 11 did a profile for our world champion Sara, and as the reporter speaks about Sara, you can see me and Ruri skating in a slow paceline drill...they took tons of footage, but we got a split of seconds:-) Check it out (link)
